Combine whole wheat and 4 cups cold water in a medium saucepan, bring to a boil then reduce heat to low and simmer for 2 hours covered.
Check pan after the first hour and add more water as needed.
When grains are soft and puffed, add milk and sugar and simmer for another 20 minutes until you have achieved the consistency of oatmeal.
Top with your favorite toppings, nuts, cream, honey, brown sugar etc…
